Well, this last week was a big wakeup call for me. My weigh ins have not been good and I've been very embarrassed which is way I haven't posted. I am back up to 198. I'm pretty disappointed in myself because I know that I am making the choices that created the weight gain.
I've been doing a lot of emotional eating and somehow, it just doesn't work the same to eat carrots and celery when you are emotionally eating. Chocolate and fat and empty carbs always seem to be my choice. I even ate chicken nuggets, mini corndogs and fish sticks. Bad! Bad! Bad! I really slid backwards over the past 3 weeks and I'm sorry.
A little over a week ago, I had two episodes where my blood sugar dropped dramatically and suddenly. That hasn't happened since I started eating better - another sign that I am really falling back into bad habits. It was really scary to hope that I would make it home without fainting while driving!
Then this past Sunday, I was getting out of a chair and basically popped my hip out of its joint. Oh my pain! It hurt so so bad. I went to the dr Tuesday and the Physical Therapist yesterday. I am feeling tons better since they popped it back into place but I do not want to have that happen again. I know that a lot of overweight and out of shape people deal with chronic back pain and I DO NOT want to be one of those people! It was awful!
So......HOW AM I GOING TO GET BACK ON TRACK?
1st - I have really thought about my eating habits lately and realized that I have been skipping breakfast a lot and for lunch and snacks I grab whatever is close by and requires no preparation. So I spent some time yesterday making some foods that I can just grab from the freezer and heat up that are healthy. I made some mini quiches for breakfasts and am working on some smoothies today. I also made a huge pot of soup and measured it into individually sized freezer containers. I'm going to make up some black bean burgers and freeze them as well as some healthy burritos. I think that will help a lot! I will be posting the recipes on the other blog as soon as I can.
2nd - I have got to get moving! As a family we decided to do a "couch to 5K" program. It is designed for people like me who literally do not exercise at all. We are doing the program with our lovingly overweights dogs too. It will take approx 20 - 30 minutes per day, 3 days per week for 12 weeks to get us ready to be able to jog for 30 straight minutes. I AM NOT A RUNNER! But I have to do something. And my family needs to do something too. And the Physical Therapist and dr told me that I HAVE to get active and strengthen my core muscles. So I will do it. Sigh.
So there you have it - my confession and my plan. I know that being down to 180 by my sisters wedding in May is no longer a healthy goal because I pretty much wasted the last three weeks. But I will be in better shape than I am now.
This is my journey from being a 5'9" 115 lb high school graduate to a 125 lb bride to a 215 lb stay at home mom eighteen years later to being a healthy person! I am not following any "fad" diets. I don't have a gym membership and personal trainer. I'm not buying weight loss drugs or shakes or pre made "diet" meals. And while weight loss would be a wonderful bonus, my focus is on getting healthy in a REAL LIFE way!

Sorry! I am a very neglectful blogger!
Hi All!
Sorry its been almost three weeks since I last posted! Just wanted to let you in on a few of my discoveries this past few weeks! Oh - and I am still holding steady at 195 - 20 lbs lost. HOWEVER, I have incentive to get busy again! My amaing sister is getting married in 2 months and I want to look good for her wedding. So I have set a big goal of losing 15 lbs before she get married! That would put me at 180 - it figures out to about 2 lbs a week. I can do this!
Now on to my discoveries -
1 - We use a LOT less oil, margarine and butter now. Since October, we have only used about 7 cups of oil TOTAL. And only 2 big tubs of margarine. For 6 people. We used to go through a big tub of margarine a month and a quart of oil and 1/2 a container of shortening. That, my friends, is a lot of FAT! Most of the oil that we've used recently is actually for items we have made for other people. For our family, we've maybe used 2 - 3 cups of it. We replace it mostly with applesauce. Or we simply cut it in half in the recipe. For pizza crust, we use 1 T instead of 2 - that sort of thing.
2 - We use a LOT more cooking spray. We use it for everything. We spray in on the frying pan before making eggs or pancakes. We spray it over potatoes cut like french fries, sprinkle them with salt and bake them until they are crispy. But I'd much rather get a trace of fat from a 1 second spray than a whole bunch of fat from 1 T of oil used to oil the pan!
3 - My children have officially made the switch to whole grains! IT CAN BE DONE! I didn't think it was possible! Even my pickiest expressed his disappointment when I served white french bread one night for dinner because he wanted to try the "brown" kind! It made my day!
4 - There are so so so many dieting/healthy eating ideas out there. I have realized that since every person is different, every person most likely has something different that works for them! My version of healthy eating is different that someone elses. What matters is that it works within what your doctor recommends and it makes you feel better.
5 - I have to have a Hershey's kiss and a glass of chocolate milk every day. As long as I have those, I can go without just about anything else without feeling deprived. And as long as I eat either the dark or the coconut cream kisses, one is usually plenty to satisfy my need for chocolate. I do only buy the low fat chocolate milk as well. I am not a plain milk drinker but I know I need to get my calcium in somehow. So I drink a 7 oz cup of chocolate milk every morning. If I don't have my milk and my Hershey's kiss, I have found that I way over eat through the rest of the day.
6 - Once again - I have found that exercise is the key. Just eating right helps me to maintain. Exercise is what helps me lose weight. And although losing weight is not the main goal, I know that I can't be as healthy as I need to be at my current weight. So I need to get motivated to exercise again. I will be starting from scratch AGAIN. I'm hoping that the better weather and warmer temperatures and sunshine will encourage me. When it is cold and gray and snowy or rainy, I just want to cuddle up in blankets and hibernate!
7 - And the final one - Mondays really STINK as the weigh in day! I am fairly sedentary on Sundays and kinda snacky! And Mondays are completely crazy in my world. So rather than get completely discouraged every single Monday from either missing my weigh in or weighing in and having the numbers be high, I decided to change it to WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY. I'll be posting on Wednesdays from now on.
Hope you are having a good March so far!

Phew - just a hiccup, not a trend!
Last week was just a bad weigh in day I decided! Yesterday I was running crazy so I weighed in today and I've lost 3 lbs since last week. So I finally hit the 20 lb mark. So 20 lbs lost since I went to the doctor 18 weeks ago. Not too bad. Fairly healthy weight loss!
I am very grateful for all of you who check up on me and who read this blog. It helps me so much to be accountable to you all. I hope that you have laughed a bit and maybe been encouraged on your journey to healthy too. And thanks to Melissa who reminded me on Sunday that I was weighing in and really DIDN'T need that second chocolate. ;)
I went to a class by a nutritionist this past week. She said they teach people 6 main points when they are helping people eat in a healthier way.
#1. Eat 6 - 9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. A serving is a half cup of most fruits and veggies and 1 1/2 c of salad greens. That is a lot. And I know that I am far from getting this. One thing to add to my "eat this - not that" list.
#2. Eat 3 servings of daity daily and take a vitamin d3 supplement. Women need 1200 mg of calcium a day and 1000 iu's of vitamin d3.
#3. Limit salt and sugar - most of our salt comes in processed foods so check the labels. I was interested to find out that as far as actual nutrional science is concerned, all sugars are pretty much created equal - sugar, honey, and the dreaded high fructose corn syrup. Lately, I'm finding myself substituting honey in a lot of recipes because I can use less and still have the sweet taste.
#4. Eat meat sparingly (includes eggs). We really only need 2 - 3 servings of protein per day. And a serving of meat is only 3 oz of cooked meat. That isn't much. She suggested having one dinner a week that is meatless. And be sure to pick the leanest cuts of meat available. For poultry that means the skinless white meat. For beef and pork, that means the loin cuts. And use beans and legumes as a substitute. I made black bean burgers this past weekend and my 4 year old told me that she likes my burgers better than Wendy's. :)
#5. Use unsaturated fats and oils as much as possible. Canola and olive oils are the best for your heart as far as nutritional science has proven at this point.
#6. Eat grains. Grains are good for us. Our goal should be to make half of our grains WHOLE. Which basically means - substitute whole grain breads for white, whole grain tortills for white, whole grain pasta for regular, whole grain cereals for Lucky Charms, etc. My family really dislikes brown rice - so that is our grain that we choose to not have as a whole grain. We use half whole wheat and half white in baking. We had to experiment to find which brands of things that we like. Harpers Homemade Bran Bread is great. Its the texture of white with the fiber of really good whole wheat. Mission Multi-grain tortillas are SOOO good. Barilla makes a thin whole wheat spaghetti that is out of this world.
A couple other tips - she said she uses whole wheat pastry flour - it's lighter than regulary whole wheat with all the nutrition. She also said in baking, use 7/8 a cup of whole wheat flour when 1 cup of regular flour is listed in the ingredients. Good to know!
Another one of her tips - she said "Don't drink your calories". The only thing she drinks besides water is milk or fruit smoothies made mostly with fruit and ice. She also adds fresh spinach to make them green. Haven't tried that one yet. I've heard its great but I kinda like my fresh spinach in a bowl, topped with salad fixings and dressing. :)
REMEMBER - even one change is a step forward! Maybe this month, decide to eat more whole grains and have one meatless dinner each week. Maybe next month, you'll increase your fruits and veggies. Then the next month, you'll give up your soda pop. Notice I did not say give up chocolate! :)

BIG Sigh!
Well, it hasn't been the best couple of weeks as far as weight loss goes. I gained back 2 lbs. My first weeks of gaining since I started this. But don't you fear - I have some theories on what happened.
1st theory - Once again - exercise has NOT been my friend! I am finding I would much rather exercise my fingers on facebook than exercise my body - unfortunately, while that makes for very strong fingers, it does absolutely nothing to get my body healthy and strong AND no matter how fast I type, it doesn't burn many calories. And even though i have skinny fingers - they don't need to fit into jeans so they really don't count!
2nd theory - I stopped for fast food one day. I know. I shouldn't have. I was starving and driving and shopping and the combination is just NOT good! And so I caved. I knew I shouldn't as I turned on my blinker. I knew I shouldn't as I drive through the drive in. I knew I shouldn't as I ordered. And I definitely knew I shouldn't as I devoured every last tasty morsel (except for the bit I shared with my daughter). In my defense, I did only get a plain bean burrito from one of those Beto/Rancherito/Floriberto type places. But those are huge! And it is still fast food.
3rd theory - Low fat food. That does not mean "Jenn, why don't you eat all you want since it is low fat. Stuff yourself until you waddle instead of walk. Its all good!" Since I have discovered some secrets to making very tasty healhier food, I have had a really rough time watching those portion sizes! Better get back to measuring!
4th theory - Eating most of a pan of brownies is a BAD idea. Just a hunch anyway. Someone who loves me very much brought me a pan of brownies. Wonderfully goo-ey brownies. With a chocolate mint glaze on the top. And I promptly sat down with a spoon and ate the middle of the 9 x 13 pan out by the spoonful. Okay, I didn't eat the entire pan in one sitting. I shared some of the edges with my children and my hubby. And I put about seven pieces in the freezer for other chocolate craving days. However, I did eat those seven reserved pieces in a three day period. Apparently brownies, even gooey ones, are things that I can only eat one of and then give the rest away to various neighbors because I have NO self control!
Kind of a miracle that I only gained 2 lbs in the past 2 weeks actually. Big sigh. Time to get back on track. Get moving. Get measuring. Get motivated!
On the flip side - I had an amazing weekend at a conference called Time Out for Women. I was reminded that I am a daughter of God - He created me - and He doesn't create anything that isn't beautiful and of worth. I am praying that the feelings that I had this weekend will help me try to be my best in ALL I do, including my journey to healthy!
Love to you all! I'll weigh in again on Monday - I did weigh in this past Monday - just didn't get a second to post until today.

So So So Close!
Its amazing what a little bit of exercise can do! It totally jump started the weight loss again! I lost 2 lbs this week - I am one pound away from 20 lbs lost!!!!! Plus I had a couple of people ask me about small changes to diet that make huge differences! That got me back on track too! Thanks! I am feeling so good right now!
Yesterday I had to pin my skirt for church! It was too big! And the xxl "slimming" shirt that I was wearing looked too big on me too! I couldn't believe it!
Now that I've started that country dance game on wii, I start dancing around the living room to any song I hear! Its like my body can't stop itself from moving! It's a total embarrassment to my kids but it makes me feel energized and strong!
The thought that I posted on my facebook page for this week is
I'm going to get a few more recipes posted on triedandtrueandhealthy2.blogspot.com for you all to enjoy this week. We made taco burgers this week (a black bean/ground chicken burger) that we all loved. I also found a delicious crockpot chicken recipe and a very tasty fat free apple dip that you will never guess is fat free! And on Friday we're celebrating Chinese New Year the healthy way. I'll get those recipes posted next week!
Smile!
P.S. Did you notice I am in a kinda bubbly mood? I just realized that I used a ton of ! on this post! Must be feeling awesome!

"Remember, you can't reach for what's in front of you until you let go of what's behind you."
My challenge to you for this week is to decide one thing that is "in front of you" that relates to your health and then leave behind one of the things that is holding you back from reaching that thing. :) Have a great week! It's Monday, It's Monday....
Sorry for not weighing in and posting last week - my Monday morning was insane and I didn't get weighed in. Then I was kinda sick all week and just feeling blah. So I weighed in today. I'm hanging still at 198. But since I didn't exercise at all last week, I'm not feeling too bad. I'm still watching what I eat and am trying hard to eat right. Bad for me foods are starting to not even sound good, probably because I know that if I eat it, I will be so so sick afterwards - just not worth it. I still crave the chocolate (usually brownies) if I am stressed.
I found something out a couple of weeks ago that made so much sense. My therapist was telling me that our body emotionally uses fat as a shield, a buffer for dealing with stress and emotions. So when we emotionally eat, our emotions let our brains know that we are experiencing drama or trauma, and our brain signals to the body that it needs a bigger buffer. So we eat. And we crave fatty foods. She is suggesting to me - and I'm passing it on to all of you - next time you find yourself craving food, especially something fatty and unhealthy, try to think what you are trying to shield yourself from. Maybe it is heartache - someone has been rude to you. Maybe it is the fear of rejection. Maybe it is sadness from a death or a calamity that you have experienced or heard about. Maybe it is the stress of overdoing it - you have a million things on your plate! Then, instead of reaching for the candy bar or the full pan of brownies (that I REALLY wanted to make and eat all by myself this week), reach for something crunchy. Nuts, low fat croutons, cut up corn tortillas that you have baked, mini carrots, pretzels. And CRUNCH and CRUNCH and CRUNCH. You'll be amazed how good it feels. And while you are CRUNCHING, write down what it is you are feeling. Get the emotions out. Talk to a friend. Whatever it takes. Typically if you express what you are feeling, you don't need as much of a shield because you aren't internalizing what is happening as much. I'm trying to do this and it seems to be working. If you have to have chocolate, grab one tablespoon of semi sweet chocolate chips and mix them with your almonds or pretzels.
Also, since I haven't been a regular exerciser, I have noticed that I am getting frustrated LOTS easier. So back to the fitness grind I go. Today I splurged on a Wii game - country dance. Now for people that are in amazing shape, it probably doesn't seem like exercise. But to me? It kicked my big huge country butt! I was sweating and short of breath and everything! The songs are awesome! Its not too hard to follow. And it was really fun! So I'm thinking that I will do it a couple of days a week for about 20 - 30 min a day, ride my exercise bike a couple of days a week for 20 - 30 min and maybe do the Jillian one two days a week. I know that I feel better when I exercise and while I seem to be able to maintain weight loss with just eating right, I sure can't lose weight without exercise. Hope you all are doing well!

Wow - Its been a while!
Not keeping up so good this holiday season - sorry! Weighed in today and I'm down to 198. So I think that is down about a pound from the last post. Its been a long holiday, full of tons of tempting deliciousness! And as strange as it sounds, I'm grateful that our holiday has also been filled with lots of stomach flu - 2 rounds actually. The only reasons I am grateful is that it prevented us from going to some gatherings where I would be tempted AND my weight gain was quickly corrected. :s I still found plenty to nibble on though and was very relieved when the scale didn't creep back up to that 200 mark!
This is the time for New Years resolutions. A friend of mine decided to do something a bit different this year instead of set the traditional goals. She created a theme for this year. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - so Christel - thanks! My theme for this year is Health. All kinds of health. Not only physical (which I've been working on for a few months now) but emotional. And health in my relationships. And even spiritual health. Health encompasses so many facets of our beings. So that is my theme for this year. If I were a drinkin' woman, I'd raise my glass in a toast with all of you - to a New Year - to Health!

Yet another Monday/Weigh In Day
Here we are. Another week has gone by. And we're right in the middle of a healthy eaters most tempting time of year - that wonderful 6 week stretch between Thanksgiving and New Years. My weigh in this week wasn't extremely amazing - just down a 1/2 lb and I only count it on this blog if its a full lb. Its just too hard to calculate all the 1/2s. So basically I maintained but during this time of year I count that as a huge SUCCESS!!!! I did sneak a couple of soft sugar cookies and a few cherry cordial Hersheys kisses and probably didn't do the exercise required to get those off. That said, I actually wore jeans this week. I've been able to do it for a week or so. I usually avoid jeans like the plague because I really hate to buy them PLUS they just aren't so comfy to squeeze the chubba into. And they just don't give like stretchy pants and I'm not desperate enough to by the elastic waisted jeans. So I live in dress pants (if I HAVE to be fancy) but mostly in sweats, warm ups and knit pants. Well I now have ONE pair of jeans from "before" that I can fit into comfortably! And yesterday for church I wore a levi skirt that is a size 16! That skirt has been in the back of my closet for about a year now so I was thrilled! It is so nice to be able to wear things again! Granted, my warm ups are still by far the most comfortable and I'm not giving them up but it is nice that they are loosening!
I've added some recipes to the triedandtrueandhealthy2 blog. It takes me forever to figure out the nutritional info so I put off adding them. Finally, I just decided to type up the recipes. Then my friend Sara said that she has an app on her phone that can figure out the nurtitional stuff quickly so she will be working on that and adding it as a comment. THANK YOU!!!! So I will be adding more of my "lightened" recipes. My main goal is to have about 100 main dish recipes that fit within the dietary guidelines I have set for myself so that my family can eat a variety of foods. And I will share them all with you as I create/alter/find them. Thanks to all of you for your support. It means so much to me to know that you are out there!

Weigh In day yet again!
Stepped on the scale today and honestly didn't know what to expect. My exercise this week has been sporadic but I've tried really hard to control my eating. And it paid off! 199!!!!! I'm down past the dreaded 200 mark! 2 lbs again this week (without the stomach flu!).
Tried a new exercise DVD today. Its Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred workout. I was very impressed. And during it, I felt like I was dying. Always a good sign that its doing what its supposed to. I didn't even attempt the upper level workouts - I did the beginner moves on the 1st level and it kicked my big ol behind! Which is a good thing because it really needs to start to shrink!
After I got done with that, I was flipping through the channels to get to my PBS babysitter so I could take a shower and I happened to come across Dr Oz. Not normally my favorite show BUT this one was about weight loss and different theories. If I could have reached through the TV and hugged Dr Oz's guest I would have. The guest was a dr who had spent years and years researching weight loss, health, etc. And he came up with some amazing conclusions! Your BMI is not an indicator of your overall health! How much you weigh doesn't mean you are healthy or not healthy! Carbs are not of the devil! Even sugary things have a place (albeit a small one but a place none the less) in a healthy diet! Exercise is a wonderful thing but its main purpose should be to increase your overall health! FINALLY! A common sense approach! The real thing that is important is getting healthy - not necessarily losing weight. And yes, I know that I weigh myself every week because that is the main public measuring stick that I can use. But what I am really concentrating on AND what I hope that I can convey to you is the need to get healthy. To embrace a healthy lifestyle - not a yo yo diet! If you get the chance, go to the Dr Oz website and check it out. The guest drs name started with a G. Hope you all are doing well!

This Weeks Weigh In
WAHOOOOOOOO! I'm officially out of the "obese" category! I lost two pounds this past week. Down to 201! I'm going to work very hard to be out of the 200's next week! The secret trick is this - get the stomach flu the day before Thanksgiving! Then you don't go to any big Thanksgiving dinners and your tummy shrinks some because you don't really eat for a day. Then find some amazing Thanksgiving recipes that are somewhat healthy! And you can make what you want because it is just your little family having dinner! It worked wonders this year for me! Granted, next year I will have to learn to exercise self control. I'll be posting the recipes I used on the healthy recipe blog (http://triedandtrueandhealthy2.blogspot.com/) within the next day or two as well as some tasty recipes that I've slimmed down so you can take something healthy to all those Christmas parties and not feel too guilty for eating!
The holidays are a hard time to diet. I'm just hoping I've been in the habit long enough that I do okay this year. Plus I've increased my exercise bike time to 15 minutes a day and I'm going to start doing Jillian Michaels 30 day SHRED dvd. I'm going to start slow on it though because I don't want it to kill me!
Hope you all are doing well - and Heather - You are amazing! Keep up the good work girl!

This weeks results and the WHY behind my journey
Another week passed, another pound lost. I am now officially one pound away from not being the obese category for my BMI which will be a very happy day! And only four pounds away from being below 200! 12 pounds total lost since my weigh in at my drs office on October 10th. I'm averaging about 2 lbs of weight loss as week thanks to that awesome jump start. My goal is simply to keep losing steadily. I'm still watching what I eat very closely. And to be honest, I don't miss the "bad" foods that much! I drink low fat chocolate milk and hot chocolate to keep my chocolate cravings away. Almonds supply my crunch when I need one.
The main thing I want to write about tonight though is the WHY. Why did I decide to do this right now in my life? Why did I decide to radically change everything about myself? The answer isn't because I hated how I looked (I just avoided mirrors). Its not even because I couldn't fit into my clothes anymore (even though I couldn't). Or because I couldn't keep up with my kids and was tired all the time (true statements, but not the reason). I've had those reasons for years. What made me change now?
I had a wake up call. On Sept 30th, I sat by my grandpa's side as he slipped from this world into the next. He died from complications of diabetes, congestive heart failure and high blood pressure. He was old. He had lived a good life. But the last 10 years of it, he was miserable. He had lost all feeling in his legs and could barely walk. He wasn't without a cane or walker for 10 years. He had a heart attack and open heart surgery. He had sores that would never heal and they almost had to amputate his feet. Whenever you asked him how he was doing he would always answer "Its hell gettin old." I watched him literally waste away because he didn't take care of himself when he was younger - he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when he was about 65. And watching him change from the strong man who was my hero into a man limping along in a walker who still was my hero was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through.
Tonight I received word that my cousin who is 4 or 5 years older than me just had 2 heart attacks and is in a coma. She also didn't take care of herself throughout her life. My other grandpa died when I was sixteen of a massive heart attack - he had diabetes and high blood pressure and somehow thought he was going to tough it out and he'd win the battle without changing his life. He died before he was old enough to retire.
So when I got the diagnosis of pre-diabetic and high cholesterol just before my 36th birthday, I got scared. Plain and simple. I was terrified. I realized that I wanted to live to see my children grow up and get married and enjoy my grandkids. I want to enjoy retirement with my husband. There are too many things that I want to live for. I decided that day when the doctor called that my life was changing and it was going to change drastically. Life is too precious to waste it overeating and laying around watching tv. I used to think that if I died fat and lazy at least I would die happy. Now I realize that isn't true. I would die miserable because I would miss so much!
When we leave this life isn't up to us but I'm going to make darn sure that if I leave before I want to, it isn't because of something I did or something I refused to do. I am lucky. I found out what changes I need to make and I get the chance while I'm still young and before my body is too far gone to make these changes.
Hope you all choose to make changes too -

Weigh In day AGAIN!
I swear these Mondays come way too quick. Down another pound this week. Not much but still making progress and really, 1 - 2 pounds a week is healthy weight loss. The experts say that if you lose much faster than that, you'll probably gain it all back really quick!
Things I learned this week -
~I still turn to food in times of stress! Had a little bit of a anxiety-ridden day this week. It was almost like having an out of body experience. I watched myself get food and put it in my mouth. A sandwich. Another sandwich. String cheese. A muffin. Another muffin. Another muffin. A doughnut. Some almonds. And I ate it all - knowing at a very conscious level that I was emotionally eating! I was filling my tummy with food. It wasn't easing my anxiety at all. It was just filling my stomach. Good thing I had purged the house of chips and most treats! At least the stuff I ate was semi-healthy. But still - I was doing eating for completely the wrong reasons! And I knew it was wrong. And it almost seemed like I was powerless to stop it! I HAVE to find another solution to stress and anxiety besides eating! Food has been my friend for way too long! And its just not a good relationship.
~I have picked up an exercise tip from the book The ClothesLine Diet. In the book, the lady walks around her clothesline every day. She starts out walking for 5 minutes and is SURE she is going to DIE. Then the next day she adds one more minute. And the next day one more. And every day it gets a little easier. I don't have a clothesline AND I'm a very fair weather outside exercising person - it has to be within 50 - 70 degrees, no rain, etc. SOOOOOO I realized that I have a circle in my house. My very own walking track. My kids discovered this circle years ago - they run at top speed through the kitchen, into the living room, down the hall, around the corner, past the laundry room, through a corner of the dining room and right back into the kitchen. I figured if they can get their exercise that way, so can I! I'm up to ten minutes a day walking that circle. My kids think I'm crazy but oh well - its worth it!
Oh and by the way - a follower of this blog added her lost weight to mine. She started in Sept and has lost 11 lbs as of last week! So glad to have a 'buddy'! Getting rid of those Garfields would take me forever by myself! C'mon everyone! Join us. And you can post anonymously if you want to!

Weigh In time!
It was not a happy weigh in time. 0. Still at 205. So a month from the time I went to the dr - my official start weight, I've lost ten lbs. BUT on a good note, I did maintain. For a week! I couldn't exercise much because of my ankle issue - only really walked some and it wasn't very speedy walking. And it wasn't for extended amounts of time or long distances. So I'm hoping to get everything jump started again this week! However, my pants are getting a bit looser! And when I look in the mirror I'm not seeing quite as much chubba. And I am feeling really good. My body is happy and I feel healthier. One thing I haven't mentioned is that I have Irritable Bowel issues - they think its a mild form of Crohn's disease. I haven't had a flare up since I started eating better! That is reason alone to make some changes! Next week will be better - I promise all of you! Hoping to get below 200 before Thanksgiving and back to wearing jeans by the 1st of 2012. I haven't worn jeans for about a year because they are just not comfortable! And now that my goals are published in cyber-space, I have to be accountable! I'm working really hard to re-create my favorite recipes into healthier versions. Takes me a while to figure out all the nutritional info for the recipes though but I'm going to try to add a weeks worth of recipes to triedandtrueandhealthy2.blogspot.com each week. And I promise, they are yummy. I won't eat gross food! :) Way too much of a foodie for that!

This weeks weigh in numbers
Not so great this week! Only lost 1 pound. But when I add it to the 9 I lost already - that equals 10 lbs! In three weeks! That is awesome!
But I discovered some very important things this week.
#1. I still need to track EVERY single thing I eat! I did it for the first two weeks and figured that I had it all figured out in my brain and I didn't NEED to track it anymore. WRONG!!!! Its so much easier to be accountable when you are writing everything down. Makes you think twice about grabbing that second helping of lasagna when you know that you have write it down and add it to your totals for the day.
#2. I need to pay attention to every single stair in my house. Its amazing how much damage can be done when you miss just one itsy bitsy little stair! Fell and rolled my ankle really really bad on Friday. So exercise is kinda on the back burner for a few more days until all the swelling goes down. Grrrr!!!!! And the weird thing is - I actually miss it! Go figure!
#3. I also realized just how important good health is. Because I am a very bossy wife and I have to change my lifestyle, I forced my sweet hubby to go to the dr and have the same tests run. He hasn't had a physical since he was eighteen. So almost 20 years. And he has a family history of many of the same nasty things that I do. When the doctors office called to give us his results, they said it couldn't be discussed over the phone and we had to meet with the doctor. Kinda scared us a bit. But when we went in yesterday morning, we learned we should have been terrified, not just scared. There are many different numbers that contribute to a cholesterol level. One of these is your triglycerides. They are something in your body that takes the calories that you eat and don't use and store it for later. The higher your number, the higher your risk for heart attack and stroke. Normal range is up to 150. Extremely high is over 500. Keith was at 1985. He's 36 years old. The dr started drilling him about chest pains and other signs of a heart attack. Now my hubby is maybe 10 - 15 lbs overweight and works at a very physical job and is fairly active. He doesn't eat a lot of fast food. His problem is ALL GENETIC! So now, at least 20 min of aerobic exercise per day and healthy eating habits are now MANDATORY and he is taking a prescription medicine as well as omega 3 supplements. They will probably be adding other medications within the next few months. As I laid in bed last night, listening to him softly snore next to me, I just cried and cried. I realized that he is literally a heart attack waiting to happen. And we are so young. And he is not the stereotype of a heart attack victim. I read the obituaries and there are so many people that are dying of heart attacks in their forties and fifties. I don't want my husband to be one of those statistics.
#4. And on a lighter note - there are tons of products out there that you can get low fat. I found low fat turkey little smokies to have at our Halloween fun dinner! Look around and you'll be surprised!
Sorry for the long post but wanted to share my "new found" knowledge! Hope you are all still motivated and you didn't steal too much of your kids Halloween candy! :)

First weigh in day
Well, today was my first official weigh in day since I discovered my new all time high at the doctor two weeks ago today. My new weight is 206. Nine pounds lost. I've tried this enough times to know that the first ten or twenty come off pretty quick (and also come back pretty quick if you don't keep it up + some). Its so easy to stay motivated for a month or so. So while I am very encouraged by the numbers these first two weeks, I am keeping it real. My real victory is that climbing ONE flight of stairs in my house is getting easier and I seem to be keeping my blood sugars fairly even - haven't had any obvious lows that I have in the past and I'm finding foods that I really like. I love the challenge of making unhealthy recipes healthier and finding new delicious ways to make healthy food - that is the fun part! And I don't absolutely HATE the exercises that I am doing, even when I get sweaty (which is HUGE for me)! And I seem to be standing a little straighter and feel more confidence in myself. Mind you, not enough confidence to post a "Biggest Loser" type BEFORE picture. Would love to add your results to mine and put a big huge X across that smug Garfield at the bottom of the page! You can post them as anonymous if you want - no biggie!
